President Bush fond of Chase Utley, Roy Halladay

President Bush got to talking baseball earlier this week (not like there’s anything more pressing to discuss) and said the first position player he’d want if he owned a baseball team again is Philadelphia second baseman Chase Utley.
“I like Utley from the Philadelphia Phillies," Bush said in a transcript at politico.com. "He's a middle infielder, which is always - you know, they say strength up the middle. There's nothing better than having a good person up the middle that can hit."
We like Bush’s middle-infielder mentality, but we’d probably go with Hanley Ramirez who’s five years younger. We can't tell from the photo how Adam Dunn reacted to the news. But he's tall.

The first pitcher he’d want is Toronto’s Roy Halladay.
“He’s a steady guy,” Bush said. “He burns up innings.”
Sure does. But, and we say this with all due respect Mr. President, that’s a bogus choice. Johan Santana!?! Brandon Webb!?! Jake Peavy!?!

In case you were wondering, when asked the same question, Utley said he'd take Cole Hamels. Fuckin’ homer.

OK, folks, tear up G.W.’s predictions. You’re starting a baseball team. You get one position player and one starting pitcher. Who you taking?

I'd like to say Pujols, but I can't justify not picking Hanley Ramirez. That's only because Rickey's not playing any more.

I'm not hot on any of today's pitchers- other than Beckett, can you really trust any of them in a big game- because they can't finish games. As wicked as Webb was last night, his line (7.1IP, 3ER) was pedestrian and it took 4 guys to clean up his mess. Webb is my pick here, but I'm sure Jack Morris would've finished that game.

Bush has said that one of the few shows that he watches is BB Tonight. Is it a coincidence that our President likes to listen to Steve Phillips???

hard to argue with the HanRam pick. As for pitchers, I'm gonna be a homer and say Lincecum.

Hanley Ramirez is a good choice, and I'll take Brandon Webb as my SP.

Oops... with Hanley and Webb off the board, I'll take Curtis Granderson and Johan Santana.

I think few people outside of Toronto really appreciate how good Roy Halladay is. To be honest, I'm surprised by GWB's savvy call.

In light of this news, it's shocking the Rangers were terrible with Dubya in the owner's box. Not only does he have a baseball mind, he's so eloquent.
