What a day for Bay Area sports

Photo courtesy of the wonderful McCovey Chronicles

Whew! It's days like these that our being in Seattle doesn't give justice to our Bay Area fandom. We can't think of a better all-around day for a group of Bay Area teams.

First, you by now certainly know about the Warriors. The motherfucking Warriors! Playoffs?! Run-TMC back or what? Here's a photo of what must have been a chaotic, hug-happy scene at the Oakland Coliseum. Woulda been fun to be there. Though we did have a correspondent at the game in Portland.

The postseason's already begun for the Sharks, who are making Jaws look like a fucking stuffed animal. San Jose took a 3-1 series lead over the Nashville team with a 3-2 victory.

Baseball? Why not. The A's had a convincing 3-0 win over rival LAA giving them a mini sweep, while the Giants needed 12 innings to top the World Series champion Cardinals, 6-5 on a game-winning Rich Aurilia single. Oh, and Barry Bonds hit a home run, which is still sort of a big deal in San Francisco.

Our challenge to you is this: Can you think of a better all-around day for a city's (or area's) sports teams? There are probably others that completely trump this. Still, for Bay Area fans, cue that Ice Cube song.

zach, your use of "in other news" has dwindled, which is too bad because it was often the funniest part of your posts. Today you made up for it with a fucking great label.

The New York Area has had two tremendous days of sports in a row. I might be biased, but I believe they trump the Bay Area. Tuesday included a 7-0 victory for the 6-seeded Rangers over the 3-seeded Thrashers, a Yankees 10-3 romp of Cleveland, and a Mets routing of arch-rival Philadelphia 8-1. Wednesday then included an Islanders Victory (although no one really cares about that), another handy 9-2 victory for the Yanks over the Indians, another big 9-2 win for the Mets over the Marlins which included future ace John Maine pitching a No-No through 7, and finally capped off by the incredible sweep of the Atlanta Thrashers by the New York Rangers (in a 4-2 victory). So if we forget about the Knicks, there is no possible way the New York Area could have had a better sports days.

Hey, I'm a Sharks fan who lives in Seattle, too! I think that makes two of us.

Warriors/Mavs should be one of the most entertaining series just for the subplots. I've got the Mavs in 5 but I'm really looking forward to that one.

That's easy. I submit to you Sunday October 15th, 1989. Two days before the Loma Prieta earthquake.

On that day, there was Game 2 of the 1989 Bay Bridge Series. And also the World Champion 49ers routed the rival Cowboys 31-14 on their way to a back-back championship.
