Phoenix a sports mecca? Phoenix?

The Phoenix Metropolitan area has had one helluva sports season. How about these for big events: the Super Bowl, NBA All-Star game, and NCAA Tournament West Regional games.

Fuck!

And between all of that are all sorts of Cactus League games, with nine of the 12 teams in about a 30-mile range of Phoenix. The Suns are a title contender, the D-Backs could win the NL West and the Arizona Cardinals, well, they play in a new stadium that looks like a space ship.

The women are gorgeous, the golf courses omnipresent and it's supposed to be in the 80s this weekend!

The downside about life in the Valley of the Sun? You might never see a tree again. And the tap water looks like milk.

God, the tap water: it's like that in Phoenix, Santa Fe, any city in that area -- drink bottled only.

Other than that, not a bad word to say about that area.

Why the shock? It's not like this is Tucson we're talking about here. Phoenix is...kind of a big deal (town).

There's no good reason why that city should even exist. That city is a big drain on natural resources. I drover through there in 2006. 30 miles out, all I saw was unfinished housing developments (and it didn't look like anyone was going to finish them). It's one thing to live in a city's downtown, but why the fuck would someone go out there to live in the desert, 20 or 30 miles out of town?

Bokolis, for one thing, your opinion is obviously in the minority, as a TON of people have moved here in the past 10 years. How's this for an answer to your question: It reaches 80 degrees in February and has low-no humidity in the summer.

As for the people living in the outskirts, it's no different than any other big city: the further out you go, the more you can live like a king (usually).

NBA All-Star game? Am I missing something? The game was played in New Orleans.

The NBA All-Star game is next Feb. Not only does Phoenix have the NCAA Regional Finals this year, but next year, they're playing it again in Glendale at the Pink Taco!!!!!

We do have trees, jagov. Lots of trees. And indoor plumbing and stuff, too.

Let us know how your next snow shoveling expedition goes.

Toodles.

And one of these days, we might even win a championship in one of our major sports! (obviously ignoring championships by the Rattlers and whatever our WNBA team is called.)

Uh, Adam - you're obviously also ignoring major league baseball. I'm a G-men fan myself, but I'm pretty sure the championship that the D-backs purchased a few years back counts...

How 'bout them Coyotes and their upcoming run into the Stanley Cup playoffs?

Oh, wait.
