Quick thoughts (and inevitably cheap shots) about Week 17
-Big ups to Dom Capers and the Houston Texans. They almost blew it and beat the Niners, but thanks to a Tony Banks pass sent UPS to the 49ers' Mike Adams, Reggie Bush will likely be a Texan next year.
-Texans' coach Dom Capers gets fired after the great non-win, but why? He threw games when they mattered most. Man up and give him an extension.
-Mike Tice gets the boot after the Vikings go 9-7 and half the team got freaky with strippers. Pretty harsh for a guy who righted the Vikings' ship. (2 points for the pun!)
-Washington struggled to get past the Eagles in earning themselves a playoff bid. They closed out the year strong, but I wouldn't be scared to play them. I don't think De La Salle High would be scared to play them.
-I see Chicago as the No. 2 seed in the NFC and I can't help but laugh. Really though, who's going to go into a frigid Chicago and beat them? They should be in the championship game, at least (more uncontrollable laughter).
-I feel bad for the Saints. Tough year for everybody in New Orleans and they were a Joe Nedney field goal away from stealing the first overall pick from Houston. Not much going right in Saints' headquarters.
-If any coach were to get the axe, it should be Jim Mora Jr. The Falcons, favored by many to make a deep run in the playoffs, go 8-8 and fucking stink in their last game. Vick = overrated and Mora Jr. = job hunting.
-After another Raiders' loss, giving up 9,467 rushing yards, it looks like the "Norv Turner Update" may be nearing an end here on The Big Picture.
-Tough draw for the Colts. They could very well see New England in their first game. Yikes.
-Mike Sherman, along with Jim Haslett also get cut loose, which seems a bit out of place. One bad year in Green Bay and there goes Shermie and New Orleans dealt with so much this year, the Haslett firing is a bit startling.
-Aaron Brooks to take over as Saints' coach? Time will only tell...
And for shits and giggles...
Norv Turner Update: 3:33 PST and our boy Norv is still in as coach of the Raiders.
In other news: Texas Tech coach Mike Leach considers going back to practice law after the Red Raiders score a mere 10 points in the Cotton Bowl.
